We first visited Bagnoles de l’Orne a few years ago. Heading a few km north of Passais la Conception, one can head West for Mortain-Bocage (market town), North for Lonlay L’Abbaye, or East for Domfront en Poiraie and then Bagnoles, passing the Foret Dominiale des Andaines. It is only a short drive to the large commercial town of Flers, with its magnificent Church and the Chateau in front of quite the largest boules court I have seen.

Flers Castle Park, with 13 hectares of parkland, lakes, a very large boules court and quiet walks

As far as we know, it is the nearest village with a Casino – on the lake, no less. There is a small park next to the lake, near the horse race track and the view is framed from the descending shop-lined street from the village centre.

Attractions in Bagnoles de l’Orne

The village is blessed with forested areas and these have visitor attractions, including velo-rail, picnic areas and significant wildlife. The town has a “belle epoque” appearance with several attractive buildings and a genteel air. Its history as a Spa retreat remains, with several grand hotels nearby offering Thalasso treatments. At least one of these is frequently featured as a prize on French TV quiz shows.
