Just outside Chatillon sur Colmont, in Pays de la Loire, is an old rail track, totally grown over, and an old Station. The station building itself is fenced off as private property but is easily visible from the end of the track “La Gare” or via the woodland path back from the next farm. Along the roadside and the tracks are plentiful wild flowers, all bursting to reach the early May sunshine. There were orchids, buttercups, ox daisies, vetch, bluebells, chickweed, forget-me-nots, celandine, sorrel, oat-grass and many others.

Dancing just out of camera range were orange-tip butterflies and a sulphur-yellow (at distance). Coming from the UK, this would be a rare sight – due to the over-use of pesticides and weedkillers. Here in France, folk are much more caring of their environment and the result is glorious to see. Flowers and greenery everywhere to delight the eye.
